Campugnan is a small commune, where both forestry and viticulture can be found (out of a total 630 hectares, 210 hectares are forested). There is a population of 422 living peacefully in the heart of the Blayais region, surrounded by vines and woodlands.
From the 13th Century, Château Morillon was the residence of the Brun de Gadeau, Lords of Campugnan and Knights of Saint Louis.
Saint Louis stayed there in 1242 on his way back from the Crusades. According to legend, he found it already to be a haven of peace and an ideal place for his troops to find refreshment.
Today, he would have found Chantal and Jean-Marie Mado, tending their vineyards with care and respect, converting them to biodynamics, and producing remarkable wines.
