A new lease of life at Château Morillon

Despite the two-year crisis due to covid, it is a new era full of positive changes and beautiful projects. For the last few months, Emma (Chantal and Jean Marie’s daughter) has started taking over the family businees.

New creations and many transitions are going to meet with the production of our good and affordable wines.

Château Morillon, deeply involved in biodynamy

Since 2004, when the family arrived in the region, the vines have grown organically, and were officially certified organic in 2007. At the end of 2021, we started our conversion to biodynamy, by choosing Demeter, as a certification label. Obviously, our 20 hectares of vines are surrounded by forests and meadows, and it is so important for us to make our vineyard a real settind of biodiversity.

After a two-year period of conversion we will be Demeter certified with our 2023 vintage.

A New Market and New Cuvees

Due to the Covid crisis, we have become aware of the importance of finding new sales channels. That’s why we have decided to get closer to local clients and also wine shops and restaurants.

Our 2020 and 2021 vintages are dedicated to this market , along with new cuvees Malbec and Merlot Intégral are our two new creations. They have been bottled recently, and have been delicately elaborated by Xavier, our winemaker. These two new wines are less traditional, less oaky, but much more subtle.

Malbec

These vines were planted 5 years ago, and they grow on clay-limestone soil, giving a very good acid and mineral touch to its wine.

The grapes are harvested with the machine and are then selected in the cellar after vinification. The macerations are delicate with fewer treading. It is then aged 8 months in oak barrels.

Merlot Integral

The vines wich are used for this wine are between 25 and 30 years old, and are planted on clay soils. Thus, the wine is stronger and deeper.

It is harvested with the harvester, it is macerated intanks, and it is aged 12 months in oak barrels (40% of them are new).

Last but not the least : our new website

A new website was definitely necessary to highlight all these new projects. It is younger and more « punchy », wich mirrors perfectly the new era. Thanks to it, we can promote our terroir, our philosophy, and our new cuvees.

We are ready to share and taste them with you.
